Calcium Hydroxylapatite

Calcium hydroxylapatite is the heaviest of facial dermal fillers. This substance is a mineral-like compound that occurs naturally in human bones. Doctors use it to fill in moderate-to-severe creases like nasolabial folds, marionette lines and frown lines. Calcium hydroxylapatite enhances fullness of the cheeks and other facial contours. Doctors suspend calcium-based microspheres in a water-based gel to form calcium hydroxylapatite. This dermal filler has a long safety record. Like other semi-permanent dermal fillers, calcium hydroxylapatite contains small particles that act as a scaffold. The collagen of the patient then grows on that scaffold. Over time, the particles slowly dissolve into calcium and phosphate ions through normal metabolic processes. Doctors produce calcium hydroxylapatite biosynthetically. Doctors do not use animals or animal products, therefore there is less risk of an allergic reaction. The use of the product does not require skin testing.
