Asian Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is plastic surgery on the eyelids. A meticulous attention to ethnic ideals of beauty is extremely important in any cosmetic plastic surgery procedure, but especially in facial plastic surgeries like blepharoplasty. Blepharoplasty improves the contour and shape of the upper eyelid especially among Asian patients. Some Asians have an excessively low or even absent upper eyelid fold. Others have a fold at the inner part of the upper eyelid called the medial epicanthus. During a blepharoplasty on an Asian patient, the surgeon incises the upper eyelid at the future upper eyelid crease and sutures the appropriate layers together in order to develop an upper eyelid crease. Other blepharoplasty techniques involve sutures through the upper eyelid to develop the upper eyelid crease without any incision. Surgeons correct medial epicanthal folds by Z-incisions, which move skin around in order to correct the abnormal folds. Occasionally a doctor removes excess upper eyelid fat to accentuate the upper eyelid fold in a blepharoplasty on an Asian patient.
